About the U-Cup Races
For up-to-date information on any of our races or events, please go to the events page on our forums
The University Cup is a series of mountain bike races held through
the fall semester where students are able to represent their
university in the world of competitive mountain biking. Universities
all across Southern Ontario compete in this four race series that is
hosted at a variety of popular mountain bike destinations in Ontario.
This series is unique compared to other race series in that the
competitors are all university students. As a result this series is
known for having low key intimacy while still maintaining the fun and
competitive atmosphere of racing.
The series also caters to both novices and advanced riders. There
are two categories, 'A' category which is designated for riders with
racing experience, and a 'B' beginner category designated for those
interested in trying out mountain bike racing for their first time.
Typically the 'B' category will use a less challenging course than
the 'A' category. These categories are further divided into male and
female categories. At the end of the series, awards are given out to
individual winners in each category as well as an overall team award
to the school that accumulates the most points.
The requirement to race are a working bicycle and a helmet. Transportation
to events is organized by the members on our
forums. This applies not just to UCup races, as members often organize trips
to OCup events and other ride destinations.
In recent years our team has been in ascent. Increased membership
and passionate, devoted members have allowed Guelph to claim victory in
2008! Over the past several years, our results are as follows:
- 2008, 1st place
- 2007, 2nd place
- 2006, 3rd place
- 2005, 12th place
- 2004, 7th place
In 2009 we hope to defend our overall title, so if you are
interested in being part of a competitive yet fun team then these
are the events for you and we'd love to have you aboard!
